What is mouse?

  • A computer mouse is a handheld hardware input device that controls a cursor in a GUI (graphical user interface) for pointing, moving and selecting text, icons, files, and folders on your computer.
  • It is an input device that is most often used with a personal computer.
  • Moving a mouse along a flat surface can move the on-screen cursor to different items on the screen.
  • Items can be moved or selected by pressing the mouse buttons (called clicking).
  • A mouse can also be used to drag-and-drop objects and give you access to the right-click menu1.

There are several types of computer mice. Some of them are:

  1. Mechanical mouse
  2. Optical mouse
  3. Wireless mouse
  4. Trackball mouse

Each type of mouse has its own advantages and disadvantages. For example, mechanical mice are less expensive than optical mice but they require more maintenance.
