What is mouse?
- A computer mouse is a handheld hardware input device that controls a cursor in a GUI (graphical user interface) for pointing, moving and selecting text, icons, files, and folders on your computer.
- It is an input device that is most often used with a personal computer.
- Moving a mouse along a flat surface can move the on-screen cursor to different items on the screen.
- Items can be moved or selected by pressing the mouse buttons (called clicking).
- A mouse can also be used to drag-and-drop objects and give you access to the right-click menu1.
There are several types of computer mice. Some of them are:
- Mechanical mouse
- Optical mouse
- Wireless mouse
- Trackball mouse
- Touchpad mouse
Each type of mouse has its own advantages and disadvantages. For example, mechanical mice are less expensive than optical mice but they require more maintenance.
